Dermal Fillers

Award-Winning Dermal & Lip filler experts in Cambridgeshire led by Lou Sommereux.

Cosmex for excellence in Dermal Fillers.

Dermal Filling is artistry with a needle to sculpt the face or body and requires significant artistic skill to produce the optimum result.  Injecting dermal fillers is also a non surgical procedure that is delivering non animal filler into the patient’s body and requires an excellent understanding of anatomy, the characteristics of the products being used and crucially understanding and experience of the complications that can occur and how to deal with them.  In the wrong hands very significant complications can occur that have to be dealt with swiftly.

Using the best tools for the job.

Cosmex is at the forefront of dermal filler technology and techniques, which are constantly being enhanced.  Within our current range there are 10 different products with complimentary characteristics, so that we always have the best product to fit your needs.  These include hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, filler/collagen stimulators and skin boosters.  The best approach and products to suit your requirements will be discussed and agreed during your in depth consultation. Cosmex Clinic was founded by its current Clinical Director Lou Sommereux in 2002 and Lou has now performed over 500,000 dermal filler and muscle relaxant injections with an impeccable safety record.  She is passionate about standards and patient safety in aesthetics and was shocked by how easy it was for untrained and unqualified injectors to obtain product and the complications and poor outcomes that often resulted from this.

Raising the Standards in Dermal Filling

This motivated her to join the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN) as a founding board member and she later became the Deputy Chair.  As a dermal filler trainer on behalf of several manufacturers and the BACN, she has trained numerous doctors and nurses in both basic and advanced dermal filling including lip enhancement, tear trough filling and nonsurgical nose reshaping.

The spherical revolution in Dermal Fillers.

Both of our main product lines for contouring Revanesse and Ellanse have been developed with spherical filler components in a liquid carrier. The advantages of the spherical microbeads are:

Between the two ranges we have a product for every situation. Although Revanesse and Ellanse are competing products they have complementary characteristics and at Cosmex we will naturally choose the best product to suit your needs. The key differences are outlined below.

Revanesse is made from non-animal stabilised hyaluronic acid which has been the main active ingredient in dermal fillers for several years. Hyaluronic acid is a natural part of our skin. It is hydrophilic and has the amazing ability to contain 1000 times its own weight in water. With earlier fillers this could lead to some variability in the result as there was often further absorption of water within the hours and days following injection. The main innovation of Revanesse in addition to the spherical microbeads is that it is wet milled. Specifically the production process for the shaping of the microbeads is in a water solution. The result is the compound is already 100% hydrated when injected. What you see at injection is what you get. This characteristic is especially important when filling lips as small variations can detract from the finished result. Revanesse is our filler of choice when precision is required to correct loss of volume or asymmetry.

Ellanse is not based on hyaluronic acid and instead uses polycaprolactone (PCL) for its microspheres in a carboxymethl cellulose (CMC) based carrier. The CMC carrier is the bulk of the initial filler and is absorbed by the body within the first 10-12 weeks. Within that time the PCL microspheres stimulate the patient’s body to generate more of their own collagen, which reaches its peak at around week 12.

The advantage of Ellanse is that by stimulating the patient’s own neocollagenesis the texture of the skin is also improved and the effective correction can last up to 18 months.

Ellanse is particularly beneficial in situations were the skin quality is poor and the main aim is to improve the skin density, firmness, tonicity and texture.

HA dermal fillers are used to restore or enhance the natural contours of the face. Made from synthetic Hyaluronic Acid, also found naturally in the human body, the HA is stabilised to ensure it lasts well, is safe, and is easily accepted into the skin.

We use HA dermal fillers to help us restore volume loss, caused by the natural processes of aging, or to enhance the beautiful contours of the face. Whether it is to create beautiful, balanced natural lip enhancements, restore the nose to mouth lines (naso-labial folds), restore volume in the mid face, or to sharpen cheek bones and jawlines, HA dermal fillers restore a natural youthful appearance.

At Cosmex Clinic, our skilled injectors are also able to provide advanced procedures such as non-surgical nose straightening, chin enhancement.

Restylane products include

  • Restylane Volume Mid face volume and cheeks.
  • Restylane Kysse Soft natural lips
  • Restylane Lips firmer lips
  • Restylane Fine Fine lines
  • Restylane Vital Skin booster

The choice of product in the Restylane portfolio depends on the patients presentation -meaning skin quality, texture, tone & strength. This depends on age and life style. It is also important for the injectionwe to understand the rheology of each of the 8 products as each one has different properties.

In a nut shell: A good treatment outcome depends on the injectors knowledgable of the aging process and the different aspects this process has on the underlying anatomy. Really important is an good artistic eye; meaning, to have the ability to assess the face and know how to enhance  its natural beauty but also understanding the needs of the patients is vital.

And if course knowing when to say no as more product could tip the scales to look unnatural.

Less is often more, we sometimes call this the “Cambridge Look”.

The most commonly used dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural compound that aids in the production of collagen and elastin. Consequently, it also gives your skin structure and plumpness, as well as a more hydrated look.

Cosmex Clinic only use the highest quality HA dermal fillers, to ensure our patients safety, and to support the best natural outcomes. As part of our range we have chosen to use Yvoire. Yvoire has over 10 years of clinical data in aesthetic treatments, to show its safety, and long lasting effects.

Yvoire is made by LG Chem, one of the largest global manufacturers of medical and cosmetics compounds.  The HA has been used in the medical field for over 20 years, and is recognised by both FDA and also CE marked.  Over the last 10 years Yvoire has treated over 7 million patients in aesthetics and has a good safety profile.

Most HA fillers have anaesthetic in, but should you require, a topical anaesthetic can also be used to reduce any sensations of pain. Most of our clients find it acceptable.

This product is used to enhance cheek bones and jawlines. This product is good at lifting the skin and restoring the loss of volume, or defining cheeks, chin and jawline.

Wherever you have lost volume through the natural aging process, you can replace it. Yvoire Volume has soft flexibility and matches into your skin to give you natural soft enhancement.

Superb for softening those light lines and wrinkles around the mouth (smokers’ lines) and eyes, (crow’s feet) Yvoire classic is very natural and helps to polish those aging imperfections to provide a youthful appearance and natural results.

If there is an unwanted complication our Nurse Prescriber, Lou Sommereux will prescribe the antidote drug which will dissolve and remove the dermal filler safely. However, we do not remove dermal fillers if there is not a complication.
