HI-FU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-invasive treatment that helps lift, tighten, and improve skin quality. The technology of HI-FU means that loose, crepey skin around areas such as the face, neck, arms, and décolletage can be rejuvenated to reveal tighter, smoother skin.
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound can also help define and contour the body through the breakdown of stubborn body fat in unwanted areas such as chin and arms. Hi-Fu works by emitting a precisely controlled focused beam of ultrasound. The beam passes harmlessly through the outer layer of the skin and is concentrated at the right depth to produce the correct temperatures needed to generate new collagen and elastin which will result in tighter, smoother skin.
Hi-Fu is unaffected by skin colour and it applicable to all skin types. The treatment is generally considered to be pain free.

Frequently Asked Question
What is HIFU?
HIFU stands for ‘High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound’ and it is a non-surgical facial treatment that uses ultrasound to lift the facial muscles and tone loose or sagging skin.
What Does HIFU Do?
HIFU directs focused ultrasound energy below the surface of the skin, contracting the facial layer and stimulating the creation of new collagen in the area. HIFU is highly effective in toning and lifting the skin and muscles of the face.
Does HIFU Involve Invasive Surgery?
Not at all. Unlike a traditional facelift, HIFU is a non-invasive procedure that addresses the skin and supports the underlying layers without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.
Is HIFU Safe?
The procedure we offer at Deep Skin Therapy has been proven safe in several clinical studies, and there have been tens of thousands of successful treatments performed already around the world. Additionally, ultrasound energy has had an excellent track record across many disciplines of medicine for over 50 years.
Is There Any Downtime with HIFU Treatment?
Due to the non-invasive nature of HIFU treatments, there is no downtime from the procedure. You’ll be able to return to your normal activities straight away, and there are no special recovery measures needed. This is why HIFU has earned the name “lunchtime facial”.
How Long Until I See Results from HIFU?
Some clients do enjoy immediate initial effects; however, the ultimate lifting and toning results will take place over the following 2 to 3 months. During this time, tired collagen is replaced with new collagen that has a higher level of elasticity. As the collagen-building process continues, you may see further improvements up to 6 months after the procedure.
Is HIFU Painful?
Every patient’s comfort threshold is different, and you may experience slight discomfort while the ultrasound energy is delivered. This is temporary, and the feelings you encounter are a positive sign that the process is working.
Does HIFU Have Any Side Effects?
You may experience slight redness for up to an hour following the treatment, and a small percentage of our clients do experience minor swelling, tingling or tenderness. These symptoms are mild and temporary.
What Is Unique About This Procedure?
HIFU is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin through cosmetic surgery. It is also the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to see the layers of tissue we target during treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective.
Can HIFU Replace a Facelift?
We consider HIFU to be an “uplift”, not a facelift. Although it is not a total replacement for surgery, it is a viable and safe option for clients who don’t consider themselves ready for a facelift. HIFU can also prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery and be used as a preventative measure against ageing.
How Long Does HIFU Take?
The answer varies depending on what the treatment is targeting. A full face treatment typically takes 45-60 minutes, and a partial face or brow treatment will take approximately 30 minutes.
How Long Do Results from HIFU Last?
Following the HIFU treatment, clients will still have fresh, young collagen for over a year. This can continue for another year, depending on the condition of the skin. Future touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the ageing process, and this varies by individual.
How Does HIFU Stimulate Collagen?
Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness by keeping it firmed, toned and elastic. As we age, collagen loses its elasticity and its ability to stand up to the effects of gravity. HIFU jumpstarts the repair process and helps the skin to produce fresh, new collagen.
What Problem Areas Does HIFU Target?
HIFU addresses mild to moderate loose or sagging skin. Specifically, by reconditioning and renewing the skin from within, HIFU will lift the brow, reducing excess skin on the lids, opening up the eyes, and giving an overall refreshed look. Additionally, HIFU is effective for the face, neck, chest, arms, elbows, tummy, inner thighs and knees.
