About Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles as mentioned above can be both dynamic lines and static lines and how we treat each manifestation of lines and wrinkles will vary depending upon the severity and location of the lines. Typical terms for lines on the face are Forehead Lines, Frown Lines, Crows Feet, Bunny Lines and Marionette Lines. We have been specialising in Wrinkle Reduction at our Cambridge Clinic for over 10 years.
Treating dynamic forehead lines, frown lines, crows feet and bunny lines
When fine lines initially appear on the forehead, or around the eyes they are dynamic lines that only appear when the muscles beneath are flexed. These lines are best treated using a muscle relaxant. This injectable treatment can be finely controlled to produce the result you prefer ranging from a more frozen look to a more natural result that retains some movement. This more natural appearance is certainly our preferred approach. If the lines are allowed to become more permanent static lines then we need to take a different approach which can include:
Treating static forehead lines
Static forehead lines are the result of constant raising of the eyebrows over the years together with a loss of collagen in the forehead skin. The use of Botox® injections to reduce the contraction of the forehead muscles can enable the lines to relax and combined with our signature topical treatments is often all that is required.
If the static lines then remain as fine lines they can respond well to non-ablative 1550nm scanning laser treatment. This treats the skin from the surface down to a depth of 0.8 to a maximum of 1.5mm depending upon the intensity of the treatment. It has the advantage that the scanning laser beam can be finely adjusted to the patients requirements. This method will typically need between 3 and 5 treatments.
Where there is laxity in the forehead our SkinTyte HiFi can tighten the skin.
More recently we have introduced polynucleotides to rejuvenate and improve both the skin surface and dermis.
Optimum results for static forehead lines is often best achieved by using a combination of these treatments, which can often be delivered together in a single session to reduce the number of clinic visits. There is no one size that fits all and your requirements and the best options for you will be discussed during your consultation.
Treating static crows feet lines
Static Crows feet lines start from around the eyes starting as high as the temples and then radiating down over the cheeks. The treatment is similar to treating forehead lines, with the exception that HiFu treatment is not suitable in this area of the face.
Treating static smokers or perioral lines
Smokers or perioral lines are not normally treated with muscle relaxants due to the importance of mobility in this area for eating and speech. The main treatment we recommend for treating smokers or perioral lines is the 1550nm scanning laser. Recently the introduction of polynucleotides used in conjunction with the 1550nm fractional laser has produced excellent results even in older and more sun damaged skin.
Nasolabial fold and marionette lines
Nasolabial lines run from the base of the nose to the ends of the mouth and the marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth to the sides of the chin. Nasolabial and marionette lines are in effect folds in the skin caused through the various effects of the aging process including, loss of bone in the lower part of the face, loss of volume and skin laxity. Nasal labia and marionette lines can be treated through a combination of Hi-Fu to tighten the skin and dermal fillers to fill any remaining fold following skin tightening. Skin boosters including polynucleotides can also be used for fine tuning the treatment.
Treatments Available:
Botox® Injections
Wrinkle reduction treatments are probably the most well-known global aesthetic treatment. There are many variants that can be used but we only use FDA approved products that are clinically evidenced, demonstrate efficacy and safety to provide you with the best results.
Polynucleotides.
Polynucleotides are highly purified chains of DNA and RNA, which have been used in medical treatments for wound repair for decades and have an excellent safety record. More recently they have been incorporated in aesthetic medicine to improve the quality of our skin.
