HIFU stands for ‘High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound’ and it is a non-surgical facial treatment that uses ultrasound to lift the facial muscles and tone loose or sagging skin.

HIFU directs focused ultrasound energy below the surface of the skin, contracting the facial layer and stimulating the creation of new collagen in the area. HIFU is highly effective in toning and lifting the skin and muscles of the face.

Due to the non-invasive nature of HIFU treatments, there is no downtime from the procedure. You’ll be able to return to your normal activities straight away, and there are no special recovery measures needed. This is why HIFU has earned the name “lunchtime facial”.

Some clients do enjoy immediate initial effects; however, the ultimate lifting and toning results will take place over the following 2 to 3 months. During this time, tired collagen is replaced with new collagen that has a higher level of elasticity. As the collagen-building process continues, you may see further improvements up to 6 months after the procedure.

Every patient’s comfort threshold is different, and you may experience slight discomfort while the ultrasound energy is delivered. This is temporary, and the feelings you encounter are a positive sign that the process is working.

You may experience slight redness for up to an hour following the treatment, and a small percentage of our clients do experience minor swelling, tingling or tenderness. These symptoms are mild and temporary.

HIFU is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin through cosmetic surgery. It is also the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to see the layers of tissue we target during treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective.

We consider HIFU to be an “uplift”, not a facelift. Although it is not a total replacement for surgery, it is a viable and safe option for clients who don’t consider themselves ready for a facelift. HIFU can also prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery and be used as a preventative measure against ageing.

The answer varies depending on what the treatment is targeting. A full face treatment typically takes 45-60 minutes, and a partial face or brow treatment will take approximately 30 minutes.

Following the HIFU treatment, clients will still have fresh, young collagen for over a year. This can continue for another year, depending on the condition of the skin. Future touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the ageing process, and this varies by individual.
